"I travelled to Murujuga (Burrup Peninsula) in the remote north of Western Australia to see the petroglyphs. What I saw was a collection of at that outweighs Lascaux and Chauvet in France, The Nazca Lines in Peru, and Valcamonica in Italy (all UNESCO World Heritage Listings). Here, at Murujuga, lived a community of artists, making art in the form of exquisite petroglyphs, carved into the hardest rock, some created over several generations, continuously for forty to fifty thousand years." Clyde McGill (from the colophon) This book was featured in the exhibition, 'The Politics of Place.' January 19 – March 30, 2019 at the Center for Book Arts, New York, NY. |
